Road Scholar is the new name for Elderhostel Programs.

Elderhostel, Inc. is planning for the future, while remaining dedicated to creating extraordinary and innovative lifelong learning experiences, as it has for nearly 35 years. .To that end, Elderhostel has launched a new program name — “Road Scholar” — for its enormous and varied roster of lifelong learning adventures. The name Road Scholar reflects the organization’s focus on creating explorations of the mind and of the world, and moves beyond outdated connotations of “Elder” and “hostel.” Elderhostel, Inc. will continue to be the name of our organization — we’re only renaming our programs, catalogs and website. The new program name will energize a new generation of lifelong-learning devotees, while honoring the tremendous loyalty and faithful followers Elderhostel has developed since its founding in 1975. This new program name better reflects the programs of today and provides the opportunity for those programs to continue to evolve and grow well into the future.

Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Update

With it now very unlikely that the Western Gulf Coast, South Florida, the Florida Keys, and the East Coast will experience any effects from the remaining oil on the surface of the Gulf and only occasional sporadic sightings of tar balls being reported in parts of Northwest Florida, the State Emergency Operations Center has discontinued their official daily updates. However, Florida Live at VISITFLORIDA.com continues to be a constantly updated resource for real-time travel planning information to Florida visitors

Florida Keys Birding and Wildlife Festival

September 22 - 26, 2010

The Twelfth Annual Florida Keys Birding and Wildlife Festival, located in the subtropical Florida Keys, is scheduled for September 22 through 26, 2010 and will be anchored at Curry Hammock State Park, MM 56.2, Marathon, FL. Additional information is available by calling Jim Bell at the National Key Deer Refuge Visitor Center at 305-872-0774 or Curry Hammock State Park at 305-289-2690.
